LED Emergency Lighting – Safety in Case of Emergency According to Standards

In the event of a power failure, safe evacuation of all occupants must be ensured. There are clear legal requirements regarding lighting requirements and the marking of escape and rescue routes – regulated by European standards EN 50172:2005 and EN 1838:2019. Key guidelines include:

  • Place escape route lights at least 2 m above the floor (visible from both sides).
  • The escape route light must be less than 2 m from the exit doors used in an emergency.
  • The escape route light must be less than 2 m from stairs or changes in height or direction.
  • Rescue signs must be illuminated in an emergency.
  • Emergency lighting must be no more than 2 m from any first aid kit or fire alarm point.
  • A minimum illuminance of 1 lux on the floor of escape and rescue routes must be ensured.
  • The ratio between maximum and minimum illuminance must be below 40:1.
  • At machines and areas with special hazards, 15 lux or a ratio below 10:1 applies.

Experts should be consulted for the planning of emergency lighting to ensure compliance with all standards. We are happy to refer you to a partner in your area.

Escape Route Lights – 3 Hours Emergency Operation and Auto-Test Function

The ISOLED® UNI4 and UNI7 LED emergency/escape route lights are suitable for marking escape routes according to ÖVE810. The two escape route lights have a recognition distance of 20 and 18 meters, respectively. Four rescue signs for stickers are included, with arrows pointing down/up/right/left. The integrated battery allows emergency operation for three hours.

Additionally, the LED emergency lights automatically perform a self-test once a year and once 36 hours after installation. This saves you time-consuming periodic functional checks that are often forgotten. Manual tests can also be performed at any time by pressing the integrated test button.

The ISOLED® range also includes other products that can be used for emergency lighting – such as linear lights with integrated battery, which can serve as general basic lighting and additionally provide sufficient light in an emergency. We also offer emergency battery modules that can be plug-and-play combined with our LED panels in offices – ensuring adequate lighting even in emergencies. Contact us – we are happy to advise you!
